Calabar Go Pink Day 23
Description of the campaign:
“RESET CANCER: FROM SCREENING TO SURVIVORSHIP.” For the sixth October in a row, Pink Africa Foundation is fighting cancer to a standstill in the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Calabar Go Pink Day 23 (CGPD23) project marks a significant upgrade by Pink Africa Foundation from annual mass screening to embracing a "Life-Course Approach" with the aim of taking proactive measures to tackle the cancer menace at its roots across all stages of life. A Life-Course Approach is in line with the global action plan for cancer by the World Health Organization. It is an inclusive strategy requiring constant ACTION BY EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, AT EVERY AGE, AT EVERY STAGE. For the first time, CGPD will now include free HPV vaccination against cervical cancer for girls 9-14 years, courtesy of grant from Aspire Coronation Trust Foundation. This year’s Life-Course Approach is programmed to #ResetCancer from all sides – primary prevention (vaccination), secondary prevention (screening and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions), tertiary prevention (survivorship care), and provision of subsidies for treatment (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy). It is dedicated to: 1. Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer, currently on treatment, survivors, and their family members; 2. Girls aged 9 – 14 years, who would be receiving the HPV vaccine as a preventive measure against cancers, especially cervical cancer. 3. Women who would be screened and found with pre-cancerous cervical lesions, and who would have the privileged of being treated with the newly acquired thermocoagulator. 4. Men who would be screened for prostate cancer, and would be promptly referred for treatment. This outreach encourages men, women and the next generation to take bold steps and dare to halt the menace of cancer through regular screening, monthly self-checks for lumps (breast cancer), and prompt treatment if diagnosed.
