Finland has introduced its National Cancer Strategy: Together against cancer – people-centered cancer prevention and care 2026-2035 outlining a strengthened national approach to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and research. The strategy responds to the country’s rising cancer burden, despite significant progress in survival rates over recent decades.
Commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and developed by the Finnish Cancer Center (FICAN), the strategy emphasizes people‑centered services and equitable access to high‑quality cancer care across the country. It also aligns Finland’s efforts with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the EU Cancer Mission.
The strategy is guided by four main goals:
- Strengthen involvement and develop people‑centered services
- Reduce the burden of cancer through prevention and early detection
- Ensure equitable and effective cancer care
- Stay at the forefront in a changing environment
A detailed implementation roadmap will follow in 2026, defining actions, responsibilities, and resources to support the strategy’s roll‑out.
The plan is available on the ICCP portal here.
