15 Jul 2026

A new WHO report, The Global Status Report on Cancer 2026: The Future We Choose Together, provides a comprehensive overview of the global cancer burden, progress in cancer prevention and control, and the challenges that continue to hinder equitable outcomes.

Drawing on new data, the report examines trends in cancer incidence, mortality, survival, risk factors and health system performance, alongside the human, social and economic impacts of cancer. It highlights persistent disparities between and within countries and explores gaps in implementation across the cancer continuum, from prevention and early detection to treatment, palliative care and survivorship.

The report emphasizes the need for integrated, people-centered approaches, universal health coverage, strong monitoring systems and meaningful community engagement. It proposes three strategic shifts such as better capabilities, better protections and better value and presents seven recommendations to help governments, international organizations and other stakeholders strengthen cancer control and advance more equitable outcomes worldwide.

This important publication offers valuable insights for policymakers, planners and practitioners working to accelerate progress against cancer and ensure that no one is left behind.
