Earlier this year, New Zealand has released its refreshed Cancer Action Plan 2026–2029, setting the medium-term direction for cancer care across Aotearoa New Zealand. The Plan builds on progress and investments made since the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019–2029, while responding to a changing health environment and growing demand for cancer services.
Over the next three years, the Plan focuses on four priority areas: prevention and early detection; timely diagnosis and treatment; workforce and system capability; and person-centred care. It also highlights the importance of strengthening core cancer services while harnessing innovation and new technologies to improve outcomes.
