This brief examines the operational context for sustaining HPV vaccination programs in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania, all of which have had programs for at least three years. To ensure long-term sustainability, the findings recommend targeted annual efforts in maintaining a supportive policy environment, cross-sectoral coordination, ongoing communication, refresher training, and providing multiple vaccination opportunities.

The cMYP 2021 – 2025, provides a strategic framework that will guide a dynamic operational phase, responding to country needs and global context over the next five years which HPV vaccine was intended to introduce. However, given the vaccine shortage, the current task is to gather evidence to support decision-making.
The strategy clearly defines what is to be achievedof the National EPI, including HPV vaccine in the next five years, in terms of the anticipated results and impact in accordance with UNEPI’s vision, mission, goals and objectives
PATH conducted a study on behalf of the HPV Vaccine Acceleration Program Partners Initiative (HAPPI) Consortium to obtain insights into how switching to a single-dose schedule has impacted HPV vaccination programs in low- and middle-income countries and to gather insights for ongoing program planning and sustainability with a single-dose schedule.
