With the objective of supporting Member-States to develop or strengthen their national cervical cancer control programmes through the judicious use of primary prevention (human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination) and secondary prevention (cervical cancer screening) strategies, as well as strengthening treatment and palliative services-the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for South-East Asia has facilitated the development of this Strategic framework for the comprehensive control of cervical cancer in South-East Asia to reduce the burden of the disease in the Region. The framework is based on a situational analysis of Member-States in the South-East Asia Region regarding their preparedness and capacity to introduce new cervical cancer control measures. It has also taken into account emerging scientific evidence related to the new technologies and novel paradigms in cervical cancer screening, as well as the safety and efficacy of HPV vaccines.
